New City Navigator North America 2013 2017 - Full Version
This thread, along with my new FIOS internet inspired me to update my Dezl 760 for the first time ever - it still had the original 2013.30 map! In the past I've used my PC for this but I decided to try the Mac this time. As posted earlier, the current version of Express for MacOS is 5.7.0.0. Have not used this for a long time, but simply plugging in the GPS and running Express did not seem to offer any update possibility unless I registered the GPS.
Feb 27, 2018 - Bluetooth SW Version 1.71 Map on the unit is CN North America NT 2013.10 located in the nuvi Garmin gmapprom.img I tried to place the file in SD Garmin named as gmapprom.img, gmapsupp.img, and gmapsup1.img.
Whatever, I entered my e-mail address and got back a thank you e-mail along with a code for a 10% discount on Garmin accessories and maps.Just for fun, I logged into my MyGarmin account and it also shows the same GPS was registered in 2013. Anyway, if you want a 10% Garmin discount, looks like the old trick of re-registering a GPS still works for that. BTW, when I logged into MyGarmin it forced me to update my old password but would not take the new one I entered, giving the error that passwords can only be 8 characters long. In 2017?;) Anyway, back in Express it forced me to do a firmware update for the Dezl first and apparently also installed some of the specialized Dezl files in the process. I then re-connected it to my computer and Express installed the 2018.30 map, which took 18 minutes.
Sure beats my old DSL connection that could take all night for that. But 18 minutes is not very impressive with my 150mbit internet speed, I can upload a gigabyte of video in less than a minute. But so much for the myth that Garmin won't allow you to update your maps if more than two years pass.
It did not balk at updating my 5 year old map. I guess I will repeat this same exercise with my Nuvi 3550 and see how that goes.
